Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
Happy Eid al-Adha to all my Muslim blog readers. I wish you all the best that the season offers.
In today's post, I will be sharing with you my journey to a market to buy some Kilishi for my brother who want it to be shipped to him in the USA. Kilishi is another delicacy that originates from Northern Nigeria just like Suya. Well, it may be likened to suya to some extent but the major differences is that Kilishi is usually sun-dried to get a crispy texture unlike suya that is fresh and juicy. The similarities is that they have arguably almost the same sets of ingredients.
There is a Kilishi spot I use to buy the previous orders I have got for him - I have not had any challenge with them, they have delivered a consistent quality and a fair price. But for this order I decided to check out a new spot that I came across on social media. Should I say the videos from social media influencers and Kilishi lovers who have visited the place keep popping up on my screen, so I had to give it a try.
One of the main reason I decided to try out the location is that they produce and sell at the same time in the same location unlike my usual spot where they are solely resellers. So, I was optimistic that I will get a better deal in terms of prices and of course fresh spicy kilishi that has just being prepared.
Before I left my house, I had checked up the location up on my Google Maps to see the distance from my place. It was about 40 minutes ride from my place and there wasn't traffic due to the Sallah break. Also, I almost postponed the trip to a later day because I was contemplating whether or not they will be open yesterday due to the Eid al-Adha celebrations. But I was able to get a confirmation that they are open when I called one of the phone numbers that I saw on social media.
When I got there the market was full with buzz and the hustle spirit was at its peak. Some vendors had cut a portion of the kilishi offering it to me to taste as they were trying to get my attention so that I can buy from them. But I didn't fall for it. Because I believe that if you accept from any of them you are indebted to buy from him and I'd love to do a survey in order to get best deals. Apart from that I would love to patronise the vendor I called earlier on.
After a quick survey, I picked my phone to call the vendor I had his phone number, lo and behold his spot is just right in front of where i was standing. I walked up to him and he showed me the different sizes he had and their prices. We negotiated and I ended up getting a good deal as expected. However, owing to the fact that the kilishi were freshly made I will have to continue with the process of sundrying it when I get home in order to get a crispy feel.
The whole experience is quite interesting and I will visit them again especially for the purpose of getting freshly prepared kilishi.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
