In this post I will be sharing with you how to make some porridge beans. Porridge beans which is also known as stewed beans is a Nigerian meal that is prepared by boiling beans until it is very soft and then mixed with stew. It is one of the easiest meal to prepare, however, it can become a mess if the most important part of the process is not properly. This is the part that has to do with taste. You must add the right quantity of seasoning cubes and salt, if you add it in excess your beans will not be enjoyed. It may even cause excessive running stomach that's if you manage to eat it.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups beans

Step by Step

  • Start by carefully picking out the stones and chaff from the beans. These days we don't usually go through the stress of removing tiny stones and chaff the way our mother taught us.

For a faster method, you can just pour the beans in a bowl full of water, let the chaff float, remove it with sieve and gently pack the beans into your pot. The stones are believed to have gone to the base of the water, so you pack it out carefully. 20250531_090412.jpg
  • Next, place the beans in the pot on medium heat and allow to boil for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then drain the water in the pot and wash the beans in a couple of clean water to get rid of any preservatives (chemicals) in the beans.

  • The above process is also important if you are the type that is always experiencing fullness in the stomach which is caused by gas.20250531_100422.jpg
