Is it time?

Almond blossom jan 6.jpg

These were shot in mid January, which, according to my book, is like the middle of winter. The trees are supposed to be sleeping for the next few months before they start to bloom and grow fresh leaves.

But not here. And not this tree!
This one is a little rebel :p And while others just prepare to wake up (spring in Portugal shows up a lot earlier than in Poland anyway), this one is in full bloom! Because it can (and because it is their usual blooming time).

I am not sure what it is, but my best guess is that it's an Almond tree. I never saw blooming almonds before, so someone please confirm it for me.

First, I thought it was some peach because of the long and slim leaves. But here, it is way too early for peaches. And the flowers do not really match. They are much bigger and whiter. I know a peach flower when I see one.

I like how this lens got this dreamy and milky background without too much strong light and more shadows of the surrounding trees. The cold blue effect I got shooting against the blue sky.

This photo below gave me some clues on what to check online. The dried-out fruits that were left from the previous year. They have the shape of an almond, the size of an almond... That was the first thing I googled then.

A fatty bumblebee found it too :)
They are peaceful creatures and quite easy to photograph.

As strange as it is for me, it was nice to see some trees blooming at this time of the year.

Trees that bloom at this time of year usually suffer from frost, but I hope this one doesn't end up like that. You managed to capture some great moments. Especially the one with the bee is perfect. Bumblebeeee

We dont get frost here thankfully. The only thing that can harm them is lack of water I guess.
Thank you :)

I thought it is a cherry tree 🙂 Looks very alike. As for me 😊

First I thought it was apple or pear, but the leaves are different :D
Now we know :)

It is a almond tree indeed! On my way to the gym, I pass everyday by two almond trees that are flourishing for more then 2 weeks... I must confess that besides the beauty of the event, it makes me cringe in fear about the dry summer that we are probably gonna face it. Let's think positive, and hope for some rain before May...
Lovely pictures has always! Loved the "fatty bumblebee" 😅

I had no idea until now! I saw it blooming before, but I though some apple tree or pear got confused :p

Oh yes... more rain please!

Thank you :)

Our prayers have been heard! Ahahah 🌧️🌧️🌧️😉

🌧️🌧️
indeed :)

Incredible pictures. nature and its art are great.

Thanks a lot :)

Yes, it's time :) The almond trees are starting to bloom here... we see in the surrounding gardens and orchards some blooming trees. But we should also check in the mountains, there are some almond tree fields.

I think there is a lot more of them in the south. I didn't know they would grow in my area too. Maybe I have seen them before, just didn't know its almond then...

Almond fields must look amazing now!

It look so beautiful

It really does :)

They are almond trees alright :)

It is the first time in a decade that I don't have an almond tree near me and I miss its early blooming!

Beautiful photos!

Yes! Thank you :)
I had no idea how it looks. I will have to go check on the fruits now and then to see how they look like. You know... I only know almonds from the shop :p

Thank you!

those are so beautiful flowers, early flowers to shoot isn't it?
I have never see the almond flower, and I don't think we grow them here.

Apparently this is the time when Almonds bloom, so I guess for them its not early. I am just not used to see blooming trees in January :p

This isn't your first January in Portugal, right
or is it?

Spring sure came early this year. Love how fruit and nut trees bloom, indeed.

Un abraço from a Dutchman in Portugal

No it is not. But it surprises me every year how early the spring shows up here. The almond trees especially.

What a pleasant surprise to see an apparently almond tree blooming, the bees would never miss an opportunity like this to visit such attractive flowers.
Beautiful shots dear friend @ewkaw Thank you very much for sharing this pleasant surprise
Have a splendid night and a happy rest

Thanks a lot :)

Such cute and delicate flowers. And the photo with the fluffy bumblebee is very amazing, I love these guys.

chubby and hairy in an almond blossom. It seems like everything is moving forward in the world... hahaha... it must be because we are in the month of love.

It seems like everything is moving forward in the world

A bit too fast if you ask me :p Slow down world!

Amazing captures showcasing fresh blossoms, bumble bee sure is a chubby fellow enjoying pollen with flowers opening to an early Spring.
