Some people would rather have a job they hate that pays extremely well, while others would accept less money to enjoy what they do. If you knew you'd be doing the same job for the next 20 years, would you choose money or enjoyment

Sort:

I will enjoy

Straight to the point man 😂 I like that. But what if the job you enjoy barely covers your needs while the one you hate gives you complete financial freedom?

Sharp man 🤣

I think I'm the second choice.

Eiii😅😂 see this man, so you're choosing the money😂. What would the money have to give you before you'd be willing to sacrifice 20 years of enjoying your work?

I’d choose a balance... enough money to live comfortably, but I wouldn’t want to hate my work for 20 years. 😅

I think that's the sensible middle ground. But if the two options were genuinely extreme, would you still choose enjoyment over a huge financial advantage?

That would make the choice much harder... but I think happiness still has a value that money can’t easily replace.

Exactly... It's too long
I might end up hating myself

But you can adapt 🌚🤐

Adaptability to what I hate is not so certain. Like I won't be happy doing the job

That is understandable. Better to do what you enjoy than what you will regret later on

Exactly... That's where the sustainability is

Exactly... sometimes too much of anything can become tiring. 😂

That's a very deep question because a whole lot will definitely go down in 20 years and it can not be free of life's challenges which we would need the memories of joyful days to overcome.

That's an good way to look at it but do you think enjoying your work actually gives you the emotional strength to handle life's challenges, or can financial security do the same thing?

I don't believe the job I'll enjoy will give me too low of a payment, I can build a financial security from it too. So yeah, it can give the emotional strength until financial security gives it too.

Hmmm 🤔
That sounds nice

So in essence, I'm saying I'll definitely be going for a job that I enjoy doing even though the pay is less which I don't think it will be a bad pay anyways. After all, there's the high chance of having salary increase over 20 years. 😂

That's fair nah🤣🤣 but would you still choose the enjoyable job if you knew the salary would never increase significantly, while the other option could completely change your financial life?

Well, the clause here is, I'm not after only a financially stable future. I mean, only that won't even give me the life I dream of. So yeah, I'll still choose the enjoyable job and diversify. Who says I have to do only that job anyways? 😂

😹😹🤣 the job might be the only job available.
But I like how you put this...diversify is Okay

I believe for job that will stay over 20 years, it must be one that will not drain me mentally and hating something will definitely drain me on a long term. So I must go for what will be giving me joy for the next 20 years among other life's troubles.

I agree that doing something you hate for 20 years can take a serious toll. But do you think people sometimes underestimate how much financial pressure can also affect their happiness?

Yeah, they do but many are waking up to the reality now. We need financial stability as much as want fun. But I don't believe in only how much I earn but also how well I spend what I earn.

True! Some earns high but can't give account of how they spend it, though not all. While done earns low and they are prudent with it

And for me to be with a job for 20years, it means a sort of advantage no matter how little it may be is attached

🤔🤔

Why will I do something I have no joy in for that long? There is this fulfillment in doing what you love and even if it's not paying well, you get to brainstorm on how you can make it better

This is just the simple truth. I like that word you used, "fulfillment". You will always be happy going to work, not thinking and having HBP when going to work

Lol abi HBD. Like you might even end up doing what you're not supposed to do
Series of errors cos your concentration will be divided

That is just the simple truth. Your body will be physically present but the mind is elsewhere

Yeah and that may cause some irreparable errors

It's a different thing when it is just even for a short period of time, like let me just gather money for some months with the job

Yeah! A short period of time is different compared to 20 years. The is almost close to a civil servant service year over here. But what if there no other options, can you still do it?

If there are no other options and I really want to survive then I can do it but the duration may not be up to that

That was why I said adapt... You will adapt to the workflow for the time being

Yeahh for the time being not 20yrssss

I will go for the one I hate. I believe with time I will get to like the job..🥱
