Today I had lunch at a Restaurant called KGB Diner at IOI Mall Damansara. The restaurant has a stylish, retro-modern diner aesthetic with a sleek and clean ambience. Its checkered black-and-white tiled floor and blue-accented decor evoke a classic American diner vibe, while the seating is tidy and inviting with cushioned blue-and-white chairs and marble-patterned tables. The signage above the counter is bold and minimalist, highlighting categories like “Beef,” “Chicken,” and “Drinks.” The open counter area is well-lit and neatly arranged, with staff in uniform efficiently handling orders. There's also a small "Merchandise Corner" that adds a playful brand touch.
After looking at the menu, I ordered their KGB Breakfast. The KGB Breakfast is a hearty all-in-one plate priced at RM19.90, consisting of: Eggs (scrambled or fried), Premium chicken sausage, Chicken bacon, Grilled portobello mushrooms, Sliced tomato and greens, Baked beans and Sourdough toast accompanied by butter and herb spread
The KGB Breakfast draws inspiration from the English Breakfast, a meal that dates back to the early 13th century but became more popular during the Victorian era. Originally, it was a substantial morning meal for the wealthy and working class alike—providing a power-packed start to the day. Traditionally featuring pork sausage, back bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, and toast, it was designed to fuel a full day's labor.
The version at KGB (Killer Gourmet Burgers) adapts this classic for a modern, halal-friendly audience by using chicken-based proteins and adding sourdough for a more artisanal touch. It's a great example of how global food traditions are reinterpreted for local preferences.
