A couple of months ago, I started switching my snacks to overnight oats. Instead of getting energy from salty, low-nutrient snacks, I wanted to change them to foods that are healthier and make me fuller for hours.
I thought of making overnight oats, and so I bought some ingredients online. (coz it's cheaper!)
As I wait for my items to arrive, I casually watch videos of simple recipes. I do not want to be complicated ones, as I want to put my time somewhere else rather than cooking. 😆 And I am a bad cook...
Ingredients: rolled oats, almonds, chia seeds, peanut butter, milk, a dash of cinnamon, and salt. Drizzled with honey.
What I like about overnight oats is that they are easy to make!
I combined the ingredients in a bowl, mix it and put them on the fridge for at least 12 hours. 👏🏻
I like my oats to be super soft because texture issue.
📌 I chose rolled oats over instant oats because the prior has minimal processing, so basically a healthier version of oats.
📌 This is my first time putting chia seeds on oats. I normally see them in drinks. Apparently, chia seeds can choke you if not consumed properly! 😦
They are like Orbeez that absorb water, and if eaten dry, they can block your esophagus.
So, I make sure to soak them before eating.
Ingredients: rolled oats, blueberries, walnuts, almonds, peanut butter, a dash of cinnamon.
📌 For peanut butter, I use the brand Skippy. I know there are a lot of healthier alternatives, but this is the one that I like. 🤩
📌 I like the regular milk versus the low-fat and almond milk. Not a fan of the last two mentioned. I'm sorry. but bruh 😫 They taste horrible...
📌 I used Himalayan salt for some palate dimension. I learned that it just has a very small percentage of healthiness compared to regular salt. So, I just wasted money on that, haha. 😆
📌 I started adding pumpkin seeds as they contain an amino acid called tryptophan for better sleep.
📌 Ahhh, it was better with fruits! I bought organic (It had too!😊) strawberries and blueberries. It is more expensive than those in cans, but they contain a hella lot of sugar, which cancels my pumpkin seeds' potency for better sleep.
Ingredients: rolled oats, strawberries, pumpkin seeds, almonds, peanut butter, a dash of cinnamon.
My last two strawberries. 😆
Results
After a couple of months of eating overnight oats, weight-wise, there was nothing different at all. My goal is not for weight loss but rather slowly changing my diet- a better one! ☺️✨
It made me feel full for a longer period compared to snacking on salty chips. Though I feel fuller, I do not feel sluggish or bloated. It was the salt culprit doing that, which is why I feel puffy. 😝
I want to keep the overnight oats as part of my diet and further experiment on what I can add to make it tastier and yummier- hey, oats should be enjoyed, not disgusting! 😁 (At least that was what my friend told me, haha).
Thanks for Reading! 🍓
That is it for this blog. I will see you at the next one!
