Hello @foodies bee hive community! Today, I want to share something special with you—my first time cooking spiral spaghetti. To be honest, I really didn’t know how to cook before. But everything changed when I got married. I realized that as a wife, I needed to learn how to cook for my family. So even though it was hard at first, I slowly started teaching myself in the kitchen.
The reason I made this dish was because my grandfather brought home a pack of spiral pasta. Since spaghetti is one of our family’s favorite dishes, I thought, why not try cooking it? I’ve never cooked this kind of pasta before, but I was excited to give it a try.
This was also the first time I cooked spaghetti without my husband by my side. He’s usually the one guiding me, telling me what to do step by step in the kitchen. So without him, I honestly felt a little nervous. But I didn’t want to waste the ingredients, so I searched on YouTube and watched a video to help me figure out what to do.
After watching the video, I made a list and went straight to the supermarket to buy the ingredients I needed. I bought garlic, onions, hotdogs, corned beef, cheese, creamy spaghetti sauce, and Nestlé cream. I also made sure I had cooking oil at home.
When I got home, I started by preparing all the ingredients. I chopped the garlic, onions, and hotdogs. Then I opened the can of corned beef. It took me a while because it wasn’t an easy-open can, but I managed.
Next, I boiled some water in a big pot. I added about a tablespoon of oil so the pasta wouldn’t stick together. Once the water was boiling, I placed the one kilo of spiral pasta into the pot. I cooked it for about 10 to 12 minutes, stirring it from time to time to make sure it didn’t stick to the bottom. After 12 minutes, I checked and saw that the pasta was already soft and cooked. I drained it using a colander and set it aside.
Then I started cooking the sauce. I heated a pan and added some cooking oil. When it was hot enough, I sautéed the garlic and onions. When the aroma came out and the onions turned a bit soft, I added the hotdogs and corned beef. I mixed everything well and cooked it for a few minutes until the hotdogs were slightly browned and the corned beef was well cooked. I also added some cheese that I had sliced earlier.
After that, I poured in the creamy cheese spaghetti sauce—about one kilo of it. I mixed everything together and let the sauce simmer for a while so the flavors would blend. Once it was boiling, I added the cooked spiral pasta and stirred it in with the sauce.
Then I suddenly remembered—I forgot to add the Nestlé cream! So after mixing in the pasta, I added the cream and stirred everything again until it looked rich and creamy.
Before serving it, I tasted a spoonful and I was so happy because it actually tasted really good! I didn’t expect it to turn out that well, especially since it was my first time cooking this kind of spaghetti on my own.
Finally, I placed it on the table and called my family to eat. Everyone really enjoyed it, especially my child. Seeing them happy and satisfied with the food I prepared made all the effort and worry worth it. As a mother, nothing feels better than knowing your family enjoyed the meal you worked hard on.
So that’s the story of how I cooked my very first Filipino-style spiral spaghetti. I’m proud of myself because I didn’t give up. Even if I was unsure at first, I still tried and it turned out well. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my little story. Until next time!
