Late Lunch at Bellevue Cafe in the Upper Highway

Sunday was Show House, and I had to get out before strangers came to view my home For Sale. The thought of people traipsing through my private space, my haven, felt kind of invasive. The agents assured me they would not let it become a circus. Access would be strictly controlled.

I'd arranged that my current Airbnb guest take a break from her studies, and the two of us would go for a leisurely lunch.
Bellevue in Kloof came highly recommended, so off the two of us went for the twenty-minute drive to the Upper Highway.

The decor inside was trendy, and Bellevue was buzzing with diners laughing, chatting, and enjoying delicious food. There were a couple of large groups celebrating family birthdays.
We chose a table outdoors as it was a gorgeous sunny day, and it was packed inside.

There was no way I could take a photo without being intrusive. The entrance to the restaurant was all I managed.

They have quite an extensive menu with very tempting offerings. My guest has become more of a friend after several stays, beginning when hubby was still alive. We had taken turns to treat each other to lunch, today was meant to be my turn. We both decided to order something off the grill menu. She chose Karoo Lamb Chops (3 x 100g) served with salad and fries. I went for Sirloin Steak and Roast Vegetables.
Lamb is pricey, and she insisted on contributing, so we went Dutch!
We were starving by the time the food came, and we both tucked in. I almost forgot to take photos, so the plates don't look as good as when they arrived. The Lamb Chops were nice, thick loin chops, basted in a delicious sauce, cooked to perfection - medium, and juicy inside.

My Sirloin Steak was tender, cooked to a perfect medium, and also basted in a delicious sauce. It was really good served with roasted veggies instead of fries

Neither of us could finish our main course, but we both felt like dessert - it was Sunday after all, and a tempting selection!

  • Amarula Espresso Martini - Amarula®, Absolut Vodka®, freshly pulled espresso & a splash of condensed milk (available in decaf)
  • Freddo’s Double Caramel Ice Cream Scoop
  • Freddo’s Vanilla Ice Cream With Bar-One® sauce
  • Dark Chocolate & Pecan Nut Brownie With vanilla ice cream & chocolate sauce
  • Crème Brûlée
  • Liquid-Centered Chocolate Pudding With vanilla ice cream
  • Baked Cheesecake With salted caramel & Rolos®

Cheesecake with salted caramel and Rolos was our choice. It was deliciously creamy and indulgent.

I also could not finish my cheesecake. We took our leftovers home to warm up later for suppertime, and I finished my cheesecake the next day.

It was a lovely afternoon, and my guest/friend said the break did her good, but she had to get back to studying as she was writing an exam the next day.
I for sure will go back to Bellevue, a fabulous venue for a small celebration!

You Miss L are always eating!!!!! I have never experienced a cake with a rolo on it LOl, very clever chef!

...and you never eat Mr.G?🤭
I like sharing good food, have been going places with all the birthdays and a recent guest.
Those Rolos and caramel sauce for sure turned a plain cheesecake into eye candy😉
I hope you're having a good week @grindle!

yeah I guess I snack now and again LOl, eye candy is a good description. Just relaxing after a day out at the Royal Cornwall Show, haven't been for years it is a great agricultural show with stalls and shoews and food.........guess who forgot his camera LOL LOL LOL.

Hope your weekend is full of fun and..... food?

That sounds like a great day out @grindle! We used to go to the Royal Agricultural Show in Pietermaritzburg, always was a great day out.
No camera at a special venue is disaster for a Hiver, hope you took cellphone pics?
I've been on standby for househunters this week, looks like it will be going into the weekend as well!
Ordering takeout right now, yep food again😅
Enjoy your weekend!

Good luck with the viewers, I have heard tales in the UK that a lot of people just do viewings because they are nosey buggers. I hope you have none of those wasting your time.
No I didn't even use my phone, the camera is crap. I have an old phone. LOL

Oh, we have those as well, nosey parkers for sure. I refused to have a For Sale sign, and viewing is by appointment only, so it hasn't been that bad.

With three Rolls!! I haven't had them for ages, need to go get a pack tomorrow.

How did the viewing go? Hope the response be was good

Haha @livinguktaiwan, Rolos are so good, but overly sweet! Funny, I didn't mind that when I was younger.
We got a verbal offer from a young investor, the agents did not even put it on paper because it was way below the asking price. Buyers have the upper hand in the current property market. The statement by our president about land expropriation puts a lot of people off, many would rather rent.
I believe the right buyer will come along, but this waiting is a bit unsettling!

The food looks delicious. I love a medium-well steak. And cheesecake, my A1C would go crazy. I can understand your trepidation at allowing others into your home. But it's unavoidable in the circumstances. Hope you get offers soon.

A lovely afternoon with a friend. Thanks for sharing.

You're diabetic @justclickindiva? Rolos and salted Caramel sauce a definite no-no then! Perhaps a little slice of the cheesecake, wasn't too sweet.
Yes I hope to get a buyer soon, have involved a second agency as well. Not a nice feeling having strangers wander through one's home, but the agents are with them at all times.
For now, I'm still enjoying my home, but I don't like the uncertainty. The property market is very bad in our city at the moment.
It was a lovely outing indeed, thank you for popping in🤗

Yes, Type 2, so have to be careful. That doesn't stop me from fantasizing about all the guilty pleasures I could indulge in.

Take care.
@topcomment

Hubby was a Type 1 from age 8; at least he could inject a little extra if he cheated. Fortunately, he wasn't a sweet tooth. I think Type 2 is more difficult to control, if I'm not mistaken?

Yes, Type 2 is extremely difficult to control so that it won't advance to Type 1. I was diagnosed in 2019.

It would be pure torture for me with my sweet tooth😉

As it is for me with my love of anything chocolate. I'm a fool for it and spend hours trying to figure out sugar-free options that are palatable.

I spied Rolos on your lead image, they were probably my favourite sweet as a child!
And lamb yummy, that is something I adore too Lizzie. You had a utterly wonderful lunch although I would take the steak blue hehe

I also used to love Rolos and even though I'm a big sweet tooth, I now find them way too sweet. The dessert was yummy though.
Ummm, Ed, I like my meat cooked🫣
Lamb is the best, but is pricey here, so it's a rare treat.

Yes I haven't had a Rolo for years, they do mini ones, I seem to remember having some and they weren't sweet.
Lamb is pricey everywhere and a treat I think.

Lamb definitely is a treat! The days of buying half a lamb and getting the butcher to package it for the freezer, is long gone. Unaffordable now!
I find the caramel inside Rolo overly sweet, no problem when I was a child, a whole roll of Rolo would disappear in no time😉

strangers came to view my home For Sale

This indeed must have been an odd feeling, even though you plan it, when the day comes it is different. I hope you were not thinking a lot about the people in your home while you were enjoying this awesomely delicious lunch. Hahaha, you couldn't finish the main course but there was a bit of space in your stomach for the dessert? Same here 😁

I didn't think about it too much @mipiano, the agents are well experienced and would not allow anyone to go wandering on their own.
Haha, yes that's why we couldn't finish our main course, had to leave space for dessert😅😋 I sometimes will skip the main, and choose a starter and dessert only😅
