i dont understand this... could you clarify?

Sort:

catholics claim the pope is the vicar of christ. basically holding the office of God on earth. so we are to bow to him.

to that i say. a hard pass.

i mean no disrespect, but this hardly seems healthy to believe.

Someone could be evil, but because he has a title, I still must listen? Doesn't seem to be morally sound to me.

Again:

Premise 1) The pope is satan
Premise 2) We must Honor Christ
Conclusion 3) Therefor we must Bow our Heads to the pope, because he represents Christ.

I say this, as a man who was raised Catholic himself. But, I've never heard such remark being made. Normally I don't reply to these. I strongly believe in live and let live, but my curiosity got the best of me.

How does one square this circle?

Yeah, Catholics as a people, are wonderful human beings that I truly believe love God and want to serve Him.

I just think the tradition and pomp gets in the way. As for the claim that the meme states, I'll let artgirl explain it...Because yeah, the pope is just a dude. Who should never be worshipped. She will set things straight I hope :)

Yes indeed we do not worship the Pope at all for he's just human like us. But of course we offer him the highest respect being the vicar of Christ. Those who disrespect the Pope is like disrespecting Christ Himself.

Google what the word vicar means.

And then what the bible says about people that are 'honored' on the same level as God.

Eh... I just said it, honoring is not the same as worshipping. The Pope is not God at all.

Amen! But now let's see what the word vicar means..

Google spit this out:

A vicar (/ˈvɪkər/; Latin: vicarius) is a representative, deputy or substitute; anyone acting "in the person of" or agent for a superior.

I mean....You don't see that as an issue?

Let me ask you this, do you honor your father and mother? Parents are also God's representatives on earth, have your heard of that too? I think it's even somewhere in the Bible.

To square this circle we read on St. Catherine of Siena and her writings. After all, she is one of the Doctors of the Church. 😁 Let's pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament too and ask Him to help us understand why she said it.

This is why we have the internet. 😁 Get to know St. Catherine of Siena and her writings.

For context, a schismatic Catholic denomination have ordained bishops without permission or something. Thus there are many Catholic pages posting about obedience to the Pope.
