Sleepless but Blessed: Mother's Day Jelly Cake Orders!

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY2 days ago (edited)

Ever since I've started my jelly cake business, Mother's Day has always become a busy occasion for me. I have to juggle between managing the business and preparing for our visit to our mother. And most of the time, I do get little to no sleep during these times just to have everything prepared on time.

However, as jelly cakes aren't that much popular in my area, I'm still not confident that I would always get orders. I just assume my mama is helping me from up there. On my first year of selling for Mother's Day, the three jelly cakes I made were all bought by one person. Then last year, I was able to get five orders. And this year, seven.

I was only expecting less than five orders for this year but I was surprised to receive lots of queries and people that were more eager to purchase my cakes the night before Mother's Day. Unfortunately, I was already fully-booked. If those people had reserved days ahead then I could've had accommodated their orders.

So, yes. I got seven orders for this year's Mother's Day. Hep! Hep! Hooray!

And I got really surprised that one of my customers was even from La Union. She drove more than an hour for the jelly cake! I hope she was happy and satisfied with the cake!

Mother's Day 2025 Jelly Cakes!

For the first customer, she ordered a half dozen mini jelly cupcakes. This is only my second mini jelly cupcake order since I began my business which is why I was really glad that finally my mini cupcake has been appreciated.

I could've had finished these mini cupcakes in only a few hours if only I transfered the agar properly into the cups. Four of the jelly cupcakes didn't set properly and so it had cracks inside which made the flower solution leak into it as I inject the design. I have to quickly make another batch because the cupcakes will be picked up the next day before lunch. She picked up the cupcakes two days ahead of Mother's Day.

Well, good thing I was able to finish in the morning and still have time to properly wrap and let them cool for a few more hours.

The customer also asked if I have an individual packaging for the mini cupcakes. Since I have none, I offered that she can buy some greeting cards from me instead. She loved the designs and bought all the cards with purple flowers.

Then came lunch time, I suggested that we meet in front of an establishment instead so it would be easier for them to locate me. I guess it took them about 15 minutes before they arrived. They were riding a motorcycle and so I was so worried the designs on the mini cupcake would melt. Good thing the customer sent me a message an hour after telling that her mother was surprised and liked the mini cupcakes. That means the gelatin designs didn't melt. Whew!

Before I headed home, I dropped by a convenience store to purchase a loaf of bread for my father. The staff probably noticed that I was perspiring, and offered their tubs of ice cream which was on a buy 1 take 1 promo. If only our fridge wasn't full then I would've bought one. I opted for a pint size instead. I still haven't eaten breakfast but whatever fills the stomach! Lol.

I took a rest for an hour and resumed with the other orders. The second customer order three 7 inches jelly cakes. I had made the base for two of the cakes the other day and began decorating one after resting.

While I was really happy to have a customer order more than one cake, this customer really made the most out of the free customized dedication/greeting. Good thing the greeting she wanted fitted just right into the mold.

Arranging the letters into the mold is quite difficult and really time-consuming. It usually takes me an hour to arrange the letters into the mold. I'm considering of not offering it next year and have the free cake topper only instead.

I'm glad to have finished all her orders on time (two cakes on the 9th and the third cake on the 10th) and know that she loved the cake. She said it was too cute to eat! Awww..

For the third customer, she ordered a six inches round jelly cake with sunflower design and customized greeting. This was the customer coming from La Union. I was really wondering how far my ad reached. Lmao.

I decorated the cake on the 10th. I made the center of the sunflower bigger compared to the sunflower design I made last year. I hope she liked this design better.

Fourth customer made it to the cut off I've posted and ordered a heart-shaped jelly cake with the design I made for Valentine's Day. I thought I would only be working with round jelly cakes for this occasion that's why I'm really happy when I got an order for a heart jelly cake! After discussing where to put the customized greeting and sending her a sample sketch of an adjustment to the design, she confirmed her order and I began to prepare the cake.

When I handed her the cake the next day, she smiled and told me that the cake was cute and hesitant to slice it.

And for the last customer, she ordered a 6 inches round jelly cake without customized greeting. She ordered the afternoon before Mother's Day. I was supposed to not accept her order because it was already past the cut off date but she begged for me to accommodate her. She wanted a seven inches round cake but the only vacant mold at that moment was six inches. And since it was already a rush order I no longer offered the free customized greeting and told her that I would be giving a cake topper instead. She agreed and immediately settled the payment.

Thought I would still have time to rest before I visit my mother's grave in the morning but I ended up rushing making jelly cakes again. Well, being busy with orders is a blessing so I must be grateful I have cake orders to make. :)

I did my best to be systematic to save time and energy. And before I went out to visit my mother, I was able to unmold and put all cakes into their plastic cake containers.

Then when I returned home, I resumed to pack the cakes wrapping them with ribbon and most especially, not forgetting to slide in the Mother's Day greeting card. Lastly, I placed them in plastic bags and stored them back into the chiller so they stay chilled until they get picked up.

A Successful Batch of Orders!

This year's orders for Mother's Day was assorted and different from the previous ones. Most customers preferred the designs I didn't include on my suggested Mother's Day cakes and most of them preferred a longer greeting.

My only wish when making cakes is for it to be liked by the customers. If they weren't satisfied with the cake, it feels like I have failed. And this is why I am very much grateful and elated because all of the customers had a positive feedback on their orders. This made me feel that all my hard work and sleepless nights had paid off!

After the last cake was picked up, I immediately lied on my bed and got knocked out. Lol. Good job, Straykat!

I wish all the mothers who received the cakes I made were surprised and felt more special!
