Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine and ending your workweek after a week long of work. There are loads of food outlets at The Star Vista which I have yet to visit so today I selected one of them to try.
The Place
Le Shrimp Ramen
Address: 1 Vista Exchange Green, #02-24 The Star Vista, Singapore 138617
Yes I am back at The Star Vista, the place that I visit really often but yet to complete tasting every restaurant/eating place. There are so much to offer and one will be spoiled for choices. I love eating ramen and have shared a couple of the ramen places that I have visited. Today I visit Le Shrimp Ramen, which incidentally is also owned by the owners whom had Le Nu. While Le Nu was focused on beef based ramen, the owners actually wanted to give diners a different experience, instead of the more common beef ramen, the ramen that are served here have shrimp elements to them which gives a more umami flavour from the shrimp elements that have been added.
Here's how the place looks like:
A simple place for a nice meal. Fuss free, clean and neat on table setup. Nice use of shrimp to decorate the place. Ambience is nice and cozy, when I visited with my wife, there was also other patrons from various age groups like students and also families so you can be assured that the place suitable for all ages.
The Food
The menu that was passed to us was very nicely done and the ramen is broken into 3 segments. 1) Shrimp Broth Ramen, 2) Tonkotsu Ramen and 3) Tossed Ramen. My wife and I are fans of dry versions of Ramen and hence both of us picked items from the 3rd segment. And so here's what we've ordered.
- Ebiko Prawn Paste with Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen (wife)
- Prawn Dumpling with Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen (me)
- Cripsy Chicken Cutlet
- Side Dishes
- Beverage (Coke Zero and Apple Black Tea)
The ramen look awesome with the side dishes and we are definitely in for a treat. Time to taste everything and share more details on each of the dish.
Ebiko Prawn Paste with Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen
One of the shop's best sellers. While it is considered a dried version of ramen, the noodles are tossed in sauce that are enhanced with shrimp flavouring which gives it a much stronger umami taste than usual beef ramen. My wife opted for rice noodles and it was a great choice as the rice noodles were able to soak up the sauces after they are tossed and every bite of it will allow you to savour the sauce used to tossed the noodles. On the Ebiko balls seen on the left of the bowl. Those were almost full shrimp paste with just little bit of starch to make it smoother. Every ball is nice and springy to the taste. The nicely sliced cucumber adds additional crunch to eat bite to allow different textures and bite when you put the noodles into your mouth. A nicely done bowl of ramen that is worthy to be the best seller in the restaurant.
Prawn Dumpling with Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen
Similar to what my wife ordered just that the ebiko balls are replaced with prawn dumplings. And for this, I ordered Chinese ramen for the noodles. Texture differences between Chinese ramen and rice noodles is that the rice noodles are smoother while the Chinese ramen had a bit more bite. Compared to the ebiko balls, the prawn dumplings are essentially a full prawn being wrapped in dumpling skin. The taste is awesome and when compared to usual pork dumplings for such a dish, the dumpling definitely tasted as good as its pork counterpart if not just a bit better because of the more bouncy bite of each prawn. Another nicely done bowl of ramen that will suit the palette of many.
Crispy Chicken Cutlet and Side Dishes
Other than the chicken cutlet which we had to order extra, the other 2 side dishes were part of the set. We decided to select different side dishes so that we can taste the variety of side dishes. The cucumber is like pickles with a slight hint of sour to make you hungrier for more an the toufu in the braised sauce was nice as the sauce was really flavourful.
The crispy chicken cutlet that we ordered was really crispy and had a good marination where the flavours of the marinate came out as we take each bite. The cutlet is moist with no signs of dryness which can be seen in other places where potentially they are over fried.
All 3 side dishes were great and definitely adds more dimension to the ramen we had.
Beverages
I will not cover on the beverage as they are just normal canned drinks.
Overall:
After tasting Le Nu, I had high expectations of Le Shrimp and the truly didn't disappoint me. Ingredients of the highest quality and freshness were being used which is very important especially when seafood is involved. The ramen was really good, the shrimp elements did elevate each ramen and I like how they prepare it. A place that will not be the last time I visit.
Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. Ramen is one of my favourite and with various Ramen restaurants everywhere in Singapore, definitely we will have a good comparison and for sure this restaurant really serve one of the better ramen here in Singapore. Have a great weekend everyone!
