How Topcomment deals with AI generated comments

Usage of AI

AI is a wonderful tool. It can really help you get inspiration for your blogs. It can also help you with translation and generating banners and other images for your posts. I've been using is quite a lot myself too.
What is less wonderful about the AI tools is that some people are abusing AI to completely generate content and post it on the Hive blockchain to collect rewards.

The Topcomment curation team also noticed an increase of AI generated comments. As these comments have nothing to do with engagement, we don't want to reward these and so we're taking measures against it.

How we handle AI comment

We check comments for signs of AI usage. When we suspect the usage of AI we submit the comment for AI checkers. When these checkers report a high probability of AI usage, we put the account on our blacklist. This user won't be receiving any upvotes from our service anymore.
We don't inform users that have been put on the blacklist.

AI for translation

We've noticed that some users use AI to translate their comments. These will be seen as 100% created by AI and will result in a ban, so be careful with that!

Help us!

Please help us with detecting AI usage. We have a lot of comments we manually curate, so we don't put them all through the AI scanners. So if you spot an AI comment that has been upvoted, please notify us. You can do this by replying to our upvote-comment or you can do this anonymously by contacting one of the curators in our Topcomment Discord Server

What is Topcomment?

The Topcomment curation service rewards meaningful and engaging comments on the Hive platform. It is manually curated by @topcomment to prevent abuse.
Comments that show effort, substantively engage with the content are eligible for upvotes. The initiative relies on nominations, where users can mention @topcomment to suggest quality comments.

Supongo que pronto estaré baneada, entonces. Así ocurrirá con la mayoría de usuarios que nos esforzamos por responder en el idioma que utiliza el autor del post. Para mí es una forma más de mostrarle respeto. Por cierto, no todos los front-ends de Hive facilitan la traducción, hasta donde yo conozco esa función solamente es posible con PeakD. Entiendo que es una decisión difícil y comprendo que no se voten comentarios que arrojen resultado positivo en los detectores de IA, pero utilizar una lista negra para ignorar también los comentarios expresados en su idioma y que claramente no son generados por IA no me parece acertado. De todos modos, estoy agradecida por el trabajo que estáis realizando para estimular el compromiso genuino en Hive.

I suppose I'll be banned soon, then. That will happen to most users who make an effort to respond in the language used by the author of the post. For me, it's another way of showing respect. By the way, not all Hive front-ends facilitate translation; as far as I know, that feature is only available with PeakD. I understand that it's a difficult decision, and I understand that comments that test positive on AI detectors are not voted on, but using a blacklist to also ignore comments expressed in your language that are clearly not generated by AI does not seem right to me. In any case, I am grateful for the work you are doing to encourage genuine engagement on Hive.

Banning AI created content is a fine thing but banning AI translations can be a hurdle for non native speakers. For example I don't speak/write Spanish very well but want to reply in Spanish when the post also is written in Spanish. I use AI (deepl) for the translation, like I do in some of my posts. Nevertheless the replies and posts are written by me. Originally in German, then translated. Punishing that seems a bit hard to me.

The point is that we can't tell the difference.
I don't know who is no native speaker.
I also use chatgpt to translate some text, but I always adjust it myself.

Besides that there are translation tools within PeakD itself, so there is no need to write in the language of the post.
I've had people commenting in Spanish on my posts where I replied in English and they replied in Spanish again. Works fine for me.

I see the point and think it's fair.
Did not use the translation tools in Peakd so far but tested it now with you reply. Seems to work fine for reading.
For me answering in the same language is a matter of respect but you are right, if everyone has that tool and uses it, the language barriers are shrinking.
