I usually go for rice at lunchtime, but today was different. I went for a bowl of noodles instead, LOL.
One of my favorite topping combinations is prawn and pork ribs. I'm not sure if any other cuisine combines these two, but I have to say, it's a great pairing in terms of both flavor and texture.
Prawns have that springy texture, while pork ribs offer a slightly tougher, meatier bite. The flavor also shifts dramatically from the fresh, briny taste of seafood to the deep, earthy richness of pork. So yeah, I really enjoy this meal.
The best thing about this dish is that many noodle stalls serve it, which just shows how popular it is here in the city.
Most stalls only offer one type of noodle, thick yellow "egg" noodles. But this particular stall surprised me by offering a variety of noodles, which was a very pleasant surprise. It’s not often that I come across something like this, so I was quite happy about it.
My noodle of choice? Meepok!
I love these thin yellow noodles because of their texture and how well they soak up the flavors of the sauce. They're best paired with a homemade chili sauce, but sadly, I’ve been avoiding spicy food lately due to my acid reflux.
It’s a shame, really, because so many dishes here are best enjoyed with chili. Even though I’m tempted to add just a tiny bit, I’ve learned not to give in. I've had too many instances where I thought it would be fine but ended up regretting it later, so that’s not a mistake I want to keep repeating.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my food experience today and a few thoughts about it. This one has to be one of the good ones, and at just SGD 5, I’d say it’s great value for money!
Thanks for reading and letting me share a little slice of my food journey with you. It’s always a joy to discover comforting flavors in everyday meals, especially when they surprise you in the best way. Until next time, happy eating and take care!
