Chit Chat Friday - Pinchos

in Foodies Bee Hive8 days ago (edited)

This is my 5th Chit Chat Friday post, and today I want to talk about food. I mean who doesn't love food? Specifically I want to talk about pinchos , something that I had every day during my recent Bilbao trip. For the non Spaniards, you may have heard of the bite size snacks called tapas. Pinchos are similar, but specifically from the north of Spain. They're normally served on a piece of bread with different toppings on top. You'll notice I'll be showing you a lot of seafood, I absolutely love it.

Like this. It's a delicious piece of cod on a slice of pepper and a blob of "I don't know what but it's yummy" on top.

These two pieces are my ultimate favourite during my whole trip. They're in a sweet tart case that just about holds the filling without crumbling. The one in the front has crabmeat with a prawn on top and another blob of "I don't know what but it's yummy" on top. The other one has mushroom filling, a slice of jamon and grilled pepper on top. The sweetness of the tart case was a perfect complement to the strong mushroom flavor and savory from the jamon. Perfect balance. I loved both of them.

I have to say, not all pinchos are equally refined and exquisite. This one was quite meh by comparison. A piece of chorizo on a croquet on top of a piece of bread. How unoriginal.

I discovered torreznos during this trip, but it can be found all over Spain. They are fried belly pork, and the best ones have distinct layers of meat and fat, and nice crispy skin. I had them in three different places, the first one was very nice, the second time was these, absolute devine. When hubby paid a compliment to the owner, he was very proud, and said, "Yes of course, mine are the best around here!"

The next dish I want to show you is for the more adventurous foodie. I was quite surprised when I found out what it was. The waiter even pointed to his own body part to make sure we knew what we were ordering 😄 I'm not going to tell you what it is, as I don't want to put off some people, but if you want to take a guess, let me know in the comments. The piece in the front might give you some clue 😆

Let's move on to something more common and popular in Spain - olives and anchovies. Practically every bar and restaurant serves them in their own way.

Here's something from San Sebastian, a city famous for its culinary delights. Foi gras is another of my favourite food. Not that many places serve it nowadays, and I always order it if it's on the menu and not too expensive. This was served with white beans. I'm not normally a fan of beans, but the juice from the foi gras tickling down to the beans just elevated it to an irresistible level.

This place also served a scallop on a bed of white sauce. I can't remember exactly what flavour the white sauce was except it was full of flavour. Added the sprinkles of dried seaweed on top, another excellent dish.

Yes, more seafood, I told you I love them. This was from lunch on my first day. It was very hot that day and I just wanted to relax. We ordered a selection of pinchos, a bottle of local wine called txacoli and just sat outside in the shade for a few hours. That's what I call a perfect holiday 🧳👒😎

I'm writing this as a Chit Chat Friday series of post with the objective of driving up engagement and communication on Hive. The content will evolve around daily life things making it easy for everyone to take part to engage with one another. Hopefully it will interest you to make genuine engagement instead of two word spams like "Nice photos" "Very beautiful" or calling bots. I will be muting those comments.

I like some good seafood and it does vary around the world. I don't eat meat, but there's usually a fish option. We Brits can be a bit unadventurous when it comes to food.

I remember you're a pescatarian, you'll be spoilt for choice in Europe. The fish choice here is pretty boring, and you're right about Brits appetite for food, very conservative 🙃

Looks like I need to visit Spain, each looks tantalizing and tasty, well done presenting them in photography. We travel on food, each country something unique on offer.

Food is always the highlight of my travels and I'm happy that I can share it with people on Hive

Those plates look exceptional, tastes I would enjoy.

Oh my, I don't want to try to guess the mysterious one, but you surely had a delicious pinchos tour while being in Spain. I would go with the fried pork belly, not that I need additional weight hahaha, but it looks so good!

Sure you don't want to guess what the mystery dish is? Or maybe you knew already 😄

Seriously, that pork was so nice, wasn't dry at Allan very tasty. It was perfect to go with a beer that day! It was so hot

Amiga,

Con esta frase: "I don't know what but it's yummy" (No sé qué pero está rico) no puedes, definitivamente, ser una de esas personas que van a probar los menús de los restaurantes para luego dar las Estrellas Michelín.

😉

🤗

The seafood was spectacular, I loved some of the dishes you shared, especially the cod main course.

And the scallop platter, complete with the most delicious bread and prawns and the friends were also very good, I don't know what dish it was. Uhh I really hope to enjoy it someday.

I think each bar and restaurant have their own recipes to make the Pinchos, lots of creativity and originality every where

Another reason for me not to go to Spain 😂 , i stick to steak and schnitzels

You should have joined us in Graz a couple months ago, we ate schnitzels every day!

i found out about that way to late , but i'm planning on going to Aachen that is only a 2 hours drive from here .

All looks good!

It's nearly on par with Japanese food

Wish i could eat these

At least you can experience them virtually!

I see you have just joined Hive, so welcome. Hive is a social media platform quite different from traditional web2.0, and every time you post something you can potentially earn rewards for it. That's why its advisable to create good original content only and never recycle content. Whatever you post from a community regardless of which front end you use can be seen by everyone else from your blog. You don't need to and should never repost again like you have done. It pays to read up on Hive netiqutte for the long run. Good luck

So is it better to post straight on my blog or in a community? Did you need to then add the community hashtags to be seen? Such as #hivediy for example

I dont understand, could you please explain better? How do i get my blog seen on multiple communities as well as my blog then?

Your food adventures in Bilbao sound amazing! The variety of pinchos and your detailed descriptions made me feel like I was right there tasting them too.

Glad you liked it

What's it taste like I've never seen it

Very nice if you love seafood

Please send me some so I can taste

Wow!
Such a variety of pinchos!
And each one tastes delicious!!
Thanks for sharing them and making our mouths water!

You're welcome

Thank you for sharing. I'm unfamiliar with these foods, but they look delicious. I want to learn recipes that are unfamiliar.

That's the best thing about Hive, you can learn so much about other cultures

se ve todo muy sabroso!

It's certainly was, most of them were very nice

Every dish here left me salivating. So refine and exquisite.

Thanks for your comment, but i find it amusing that out of so many adjectives you use the same as mine

I'm sorry it didn't sit well with you.It was the first thing that came to my mind. I apologize

Those pinchos look amazing! Now I’m craving seafood and crispy pork belly! 😋

Yum!

Those tapas looks cute ,the best part is the seafood, how I love seafoods,I could have them in my meal everyday I prefer them than meat and also like them raw and paired with salted vinegar sauce🤤

Even though I've visited Spain before, I really feel sorry for not getting to taste anything from their culinary traditions. These snakes are definitely something that I'd enjoy :(

Oh wow, the food looks so tasty. I would love to try them all. Hopefully, I can visit Spain some day :))

Seafoods and pork is best to eat together,it was really yummy that this foods are eat together.

All this food is a delicacy. It has a good presentation.

The dishes are visually stunning; I've never seen them for sale in Brazil. They must be available in very specific locations. The shrimp won me over.

It looked so exquisite, 😋😋😋 delicious it really was the perfect vacation .. uumm jjeee and I don't know if I'm thinking wrong .... but what the waiter was referring to was
down there in the middle ??? 🫣

I would eat them all!!! Aunque no puedo 😔. Neither my celiac, nor my seafood allergy allow me to eat most of them. If there's one thing I really regret, it's not being able to eat seafood...I love them all!!!! There is not one that I tried before my allergies that I didn't like.

The "secret" ingredient seems to me to be pork tongue. At home we all eat it and we think it is exquisite! We prepare it in different ways, fried or in tomato sauce along with other parts of the animal that you would surely find "adventurous foodie" 😜.

This culinary chit chat has been wonderful as well as the photos. Un abrazo y linda semana 🤗🌞.

That is some fancy looking food. Never heard of torreznos or pinchos.
